Illinois witnessed a high number of new corona virus cases on Thursday as the state simultaneously crossed a severe milestone and the positive rate increased again.
According to the Illinois Department of Public Health, 9,925 new cases have been reported in the past 24 hours, the highest number ever reported for an epidemic, with 97 additional deaths, the highest number since June 4.
New deaths The statewide death toll rose to more than 10,000, reaching 10,030 as of Thursday afternoon. The total number of cases nationwide rose to 447,491.
New cases have boosted Illinois’ seven-day positive rate from 8.5% to 9.1, the highest mark the state has ever seen since the state descended from the peak of its first corona virus cases since late May.
The state says 86,015 test results have been returned to state laboratories in the past 24 hours, for a total of 8,116,728 tests performed during epidemics.
With the increase in cases and positive rates, the government has also seen a steady increase in hospitalization due to the virus. According to IDPH data, 3,891 residents are currently hospitalized due to the virus. Of those patients, 772 are currently in intensive care units and 343 on ventilators.
