But a competition with gymnastic exercises with dozens of associations via the internet, how does it work? Teams from all over the Netherlands will record the exercises from January 10 to 20 under the watchful eye of a sort of jury via a video call program.
The images are delivered to the Delta Sport organization. On the weekend of the competition (January 22-24), the videos submitted will be presented to a jury by category and age. They give scores and there are also winners. All of this is framed in a kind of talk show with guests at the table. This is presented by Niels Daniel, a Belgian journalist known worldwide in the world of gymnastics.
‘Special and unique
“It’s special and I think even unique in the Netherlands,” says Delta Sport President Kees Verkerke. “We had planned a very big game at the beginning of January which cannot take place.” Verkerke refers to the Open Zeeland Acrogym Championships in Zierikzee. “But we wanted to do something anyway.”
After a long time, there is another competition coming up and the gymnasts also have a goal to train for. “It was not always easy last year,” said coach Wendy Huijzen. “We have to focus on the competition to stay motivated for the training sessions.”
She acknowledges that it was also a search for them when the crown struck. “At the start we asked if athletes wanted to do home chores with little gifts to keep them as motivated as possible.”
‘Really very sensible’
But this is of course not the same as a real match against other clubs and therefore Huijzen welcomes the initiative of his association to organize an online match. “We are training hard now and we can’t wait to do it together.”
The online competition will of course be followed via the Internet. How it works will be announced later.
