GROENLO – The then pupils of De Watermolen primary school, who attended the school from 1976 to 1984, gathered at the old square on Saturday afternoon for a meeting. It was a happy reunion, but sometimes almost emotional after all these years. Watermolen School officially no longer exists, but the building itself once again serves as temporary accommodation for St. Willibrord Primary School.
The enthusiastic hugs, handshakes and pats on the shoulders that you saw a lot on Saturday. Two male alumni tell me that it was actually a pretty solid year. No huge outliers up or down, according to the two gentlemen, which may also be a reference to their own modesty. A class that teachers or teachers could work well with. Several former teachers were also present. And then there was also former classmate Veronie Schuurmans who lives in New Zealand. Nice and far from home. Such a meeting always brings back many memories and everyone has their own experience.
A class then had between 28 and 30 students, remembers one of the organizers, Marjo Koppelman. And another organizer, Sandra van de Berg, was almost delighted to see all these old classmates again. William Krabbenborg, former pupil and now successful coach of SV Grol, was also present and was able to free himself despite the cracker against DZC ’68 for the Achterhoek Cup in Doetinchem later on Saturday.
