Surinamese police have just released this photo of a gang of four, which was rounded up by police on Tuesday afternoon, January 26. One of the suspects tried to escape and was shot in the process, reports the Suriname police force.
The four men are suspected of having been guilty of overnight break-ins and robberies in early January 2021. In the resort town of Zanderij, residents were abused and a baby gagged, after which the criminals fled with a number of goods and a sum of money. These suspects also committed violent robberies at two homes in Houttuin and Lelydorp stations.
The Central Region Criminal Investigation Department (RRM), assisted by members of the Paramaribo Regional Assistance Team (RBTP) and the Criminal Intelligence Unit (CIU), tracked down and arrested four suspects on Tuesday 26 January afternoon. The first suspect MN (30) was arrested on the way to the garrison. When he saw the police, he ran away.
A warning shot did not lead this suspect to other suspects, where he was targeted. He was shot in the right leg. It should be mentioned that MN has already been wanted in a case that is under investigation by investigators from the Department of Capital Crimes.
He was taken by ambulance to the emergency room at Paramaribo University Hospital for medical assistance. His state of health is stable and was admitted to hospital for observation under police surveillance.
In addition, two of his companions, KG (34) and KK (18), were arrested at the Commissarisweg, after which the fourth suspect RH (36) was arrested at the intersection of Indira Gandhi and Ramgoelamweg. The three vehicles used by the criminals were seized by the police.
The quartet denies having committed the various criminal offenses. All were detained after consulting the prosecution. The central region detective is in charge of investigating this case, report the police.
