Google Play points available in the Netherlands: save points for additional benefits

Google is launching its Google Play Points loyalty program in the Netherlands. This program allows Play users to save points with every purchase from the App Store to purchase other content from the Play Store.

Google Play Points

Google Play Points is a rewards program where you get points when you buy something from the Play Store. You can compare it with the well-known stamps in the supermarket where you can save points or stamps for a nice crockery or a new set of razor sharp knives for 10 euros to buy. With Google’s rewards program, on the other hand, you save points for apps and games, but also for movies, TV shows, e-books, audiobooks, magazines, and subscriptions. You can therefore redeem the points for other content in the Play Store. Donating to charity is also an option.

How do Google Play points work?

When you buy something from the Play Store, you get points. These points can be used in 3 ways:

• Convert points into Play Store credit that you can use to rent a movie or buy an audiobook at a later date, for example
• Use points to receive coupons or in-app purchases (such as characters, coins, or in-game gems) or Google Play credit
• Receive more perks, rewards and points as you progress

Different levels

Saving points with Google Play points can provide even more benefits. You start by earning 1 point for every dollar spent in the Play Store. After that, as a one-time bonus you will earn 3 times more points for the first seven days. If you collect enough points in a calendar year, you level up. This in turn earns more points and benefits. The higher your level, the more points you earn. These levels are divided into bronze, silver, gold and platinum. In the diagram below, you can see what the different levels involve.

Sign up for Google Play points

Participation in Google Play points is free and therefore comes to the Netherlands. You can sign up for the rewards program via this link in the Play Store or through the Play Store mobile website. For the moment, the mobile site gives an error message. The deployment may not be complete yet.

• Open the Google Play Store in your mobile browser
• Open the side menu via the three dashes
• Tap on “ Play Points ”
• Click on “Join for free”

Via the office:

• On your computer, go to play.google.com
• Click on Play points in the side menu
• Click Join
