Germany regrets sanctions against Russian shipwreck

Germany regrets sanctions against Russian pipeline ANP

The German government regrets the US sanctions against the Russian pipeline and its owner. This was announced by the German Ministry of Economic Affairs. The ship Fortuna was involved in the construction of the controversial Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline from Russia to Germany.

It is not yet clear exactly what the punitive measures will be. Germany recently approved the resumption of a project to double the capacity of the existing Nortstream gas pipeline under the Baltic Sea. However, the US government wants Europe to abandon its reliance on Russian gas because the Russians have influence in Western Europe. Washington has repeatedly threatened sanctions against companies involved in laying the pipeline.

The oil and gas group shell, among other things, is involved in Nord Stream 2, which is almost complete. European countries such as Poland and Ukraine are also strongly opposed to the plan. In contrast, the German government claims that the gas pipeline connection provides a direct and secure energy supply.
