Warner Bros. recently announced that they have a brand new release strategy for 2021. This means that many of the studio’s films will be released in theaters and on HBO Max simultaneously. Not everyone liked it, like Denis Villeneuve and Christopher Nolan. Now George Clooney is talking about it as well.
For his latest film, The Midnight Sky, Clooney has teamed up with streaming giant Netflix. Despite the fact that the film was not well received, it does very well. For example, it has been at the top of the list of the most popular movies on Netflix in the United States for no less than 5 days, which few of the streaming service’s original films achieve. Yet, according to Clooney, the cinematic experience remains unprecedented.
Head quarter
According to Clooney, this strategy did not come from Warner Bros. itself, but from parent company, telecom giant AT&T: ”AT&T is not a movie studio“Clooney begins.”I spent no less than 20 years for Warner Bros. and meanwhile me and all the other stars have always been treated wonderfully”.
“I think AT&T is trying to boost HBO Max and the 2021 release strategy will not be permanent. Otherwise, movies like Dune, which are made to gross $ 1 billion, are not profitable.”.
Cinema above all
”I always thought that the period between cinema and streaming releases was going to get shorter, but that’s going too far for me. I think people can’t wait to get out of their homes and go back to the movies!”
”Offering a visit to the movies is also a great way to invite someone out. Plus, comedies and horror movies are wonderful to watch in the movies. So I don’t think the cinema experience will go away completely”.
