Fractals Focus 2 Case Review – Tweakers

Summary

With the Focus 2, Fractal has released a successor to the Focus G that effectively improves the latter on all counts. The cooling provided is better than with the predecessor and the case is nice and quiet. Cooling could be a bit better, especially if you give the case an extra fan on the back. This costs extra money, which can be a bottleneck for a dwelling in this segment. We’re also not a fan of the optional accessory to provide the front panel with a USB-C port.

It has been more than five years since Fractal established itself with its G-focus and smaller Focus G-Miniaccommodations targeted the budget at the mainstream segment. These boxes only cost 55 euros at the time. This example of competitive pricing won’t be matched by the newest addition to the Focus family, because to cut to the chase: the new Fractal Focus 2 costs $100 on paper. This makes it, together with the Pop series, one of the few Fractal cabinets that have been introduced in recent years for less than a hundred euros.

Fractal cases and other brands have suffered disproportionately over the past two years from rising container shipping costs from China. The large dimensions of a housing box ensure that few people fit in a container and therefore exorbitant freight prices can be spread over fewer products.

As with the Focus G, two fans are included and the case is suitable for conventional ATX motherboards and power supplies. The design of the Focus 2 has, how could it be otherwise, been significantly modernized and meets the expectations we have of a more modern case. For example, the power supply has been hidden in a tunnel, the 5.25″ drive bays have disappeared and the cooling options have been greatly expanded. Fractal offers a Focus 2 in black or white and with a glass side panel transparent or a closed, standard side panel For a version with transparent glass side panels and RGB fans, you have to pay extra.

We received the new Focus 2 internally and put it through our test protocol. We compare the Focus 2 with bodies we have previously tested, in the segment up to around a hundred euros. The question is whether you can get housing for relatively little money you can manage at the moment, or whether it is better to save for a while. The Focus with fans without RGB costs 100 euros, with and without a glass side panel; for the RGB versions it takes 115 euros.
