The arrival of the agricultural practice center in Tijgerkreek is an important step towards the diversification of Surinamese education. After all, the goal of the center is to introduce young people to agriculture at an early stage. This will then help them to choose further studies in that direction, rather than the studies currently known.
The director of vocational education, Gracia Ormskirk, was present on behalf of the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture during the laying of the foundation stone on Friday, May 14, 2021. She described the initiative as great. The center is being set up near the experimental garden of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries in Tijgerkreek in the Saramacca district. MINOWC will guide this project and make its contribution by developing the program and creating institutions at LBO and MBO level with a focus on agriculture.
Diversification of education is covered by the renewal process underway at MINOWC. The aim of innovation is to offer all children equal development opportunities, without dropouts.
The first stone was laid by President Chandrikapersad Santhoki, Minister LVV Parmanand Sewdien and Speaker of Parliament Marinus Bee. After that, the nameplate was unveiled and dignitaries were given a guided tour to orient themselves on the testing ground.
