Dutch jailed for 37 years in US: ‘get me back’

Singh was sentenced to 56 years in prison in 1986 for committing the murders of his wife and daughter. But the process shook. For example, it later turned out that the Crown witness had been bribed by the prosecution. Singh has always denied his involvement.

According to Imamkhan, a request for forgiveness does not make sense. Instead, she insists on initiating a Wots (Transfer of the Enforcement of Criminal Judgments Act) procedure to transfer Singh to the Netherlands.

Last year, the House of Representatives adopted by a large majority a movement in which the government was urged to make every effort to bring Singh to the Netherlands.

“ Insufficient links with the Netherlands ”

The public prosecutor argued today that Singh, born in Suriname, had “insufficient links” with the Netherlands to be recovered. He is said to have lived in the Netherlands for four years and in the United States for thirteen years. Singh’s lawyers object that he has a Dutch passport and that Suriname was part of the Dutch kingdom in his youth.

“I am Dutch by birth. I have always spoken Dutch, I think even Dutch”, says Singh himself in the audio message.

The court will rule on May 17.
