The Municipality of Den Bosch is studying the need for more parking spaces in and around the city center for new construction and renovation projects. In addition, the municipality wishes to encourage the use of bicycles and shared cars to avoid parking nuisances.
Strong demand for more housing also means more demand for parking spaces, but the municipality also considers more greenery and water in the city to be important. “These developments require that we use the available public space sparingly. This is why we also want to conclude new agreements on parking in public spaces. The municipality uses so-called parking standards. These standards are used to calculate the parking area required for new construction and renovation plans in the municipality. This avoids the nuisance of parking and ensures a pleasant living environment.
Cyclists and shared cars
The municipality is stimulating the use of the bicycle in the city by providing sufficient cycling facilities and by offering cyclists more parking spaces. In addition, residents can increasingly use electric cars and shared scooters. “We do this mainly in places where there is less space to park our own cars. We also include the installation of electric charging stations. In this way, we encourage the use of shared mobility and avoid the construction of too many parking spaces. “
The municipal executive released the proposal with the new agreements for consultation. The consultation period lasts until the beginning of April. The municipality then draws up a final plan. The board will make a final decision in July 2021.
