Jill Roord will move to Manchester City. The former FC Twente player has played the last two seasons in the Frauen-Bundesliga at VfL Wolfsburg. She is now returning to the Premier League, where she also played between 2019 and 2021. Back then, Roord was playing for Arsenal. Oldenzaalse signs with Manchester City for three years.
Roord is very happy with her switch. “I always thought it was a fantastic club with a lot of quality,” she says Manchester City. “I really like the way they play and I feel like it suits me perfectly. There’s a lot of quality in the team and it’s a young team with a lot of potential, which is very important for me. I’m watching this to start at Manchester City.”
Roord was picked up by FC Twente in 2012 at Quick ’20 from Oldenzaal. René Roord’s daughter played for the Tukkers for five years, after which she left for FC Bayern Munich. The midfielder played there for two years. Subsequently, Roord also played for Arsenal FC and VfL Wolfsburg for two years. Before Manchester City’s new number 20 switches to the north of England, the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand with the Orange Lionesses is first on the program.
Manchester City finished fourth in the Premier League last season. He missed third place by losing to Arsenal on goal difference. At ‘The Citizens’, Roord meets fellow countryman and former FC Twente player Kerstin Casparij. The defender moved from Enschede to Manchester last year.
