“Suspicion” is the second single from The Datsun’s upcoming album “Eye To Eye”. The single is suitable for this current age of paranoia, what can we believe? What lies are behind the lies?
Dolf Datsun talks about “Suspicion”: ““ The suspicion was born from the fusion of two very different sound tracks. One with heavy fuzz riffs with a dancing beat and a spooky, reverb-laden acoustic track. Somehow they merged into a new type of beast, one placed on top of the other. Lyrically, he speaks for himself. Exploring falling prey to suspicion, paranoia and cynicism in the “post-truth” world. “
It has been seven years since the release of ‘Deep Sleep’ in 2014 by New Zealand rock band The Datsuns. And it’s been two decades since they conquered the Northern Hemisphere with a tour of the United States and a Big Day Out tour of Australia and New Zealand. At the turn of the millennium there was a major revaluation for garage rock, the Datsuns were one of the main bands of the era along with The White Stripes, The Hives and Jet. In their own words, “Eye To Eye” is possibly the best album the band has ever made.
Album number seven “Eye to Eye” has a varied stylistic understanding across the 11 tracks. It wraps the engine of the Ian Gillan / Ritchie Blackmore-led classic Deep Purple – nicely spiced with generous Jon Lord keyboard tip aids – in an updated glam space boogie power chord. Dolf appears as a bastard by Marc Bolan and Alice Cooper; there are fantastic otherworldly floating melodies swirling in and out of this song selection, and Alice Snarl & Snarl is there on the catchiest tracks. Principal instrumentalist of Datsun, Christian Livingstone should not be forgotten. It can be heard in the fine-tuning of spooky fuzz frequencies and space-age screams and a host of other floating sounds of air combat and dive bombing, for instrumental breaks and album beds.
“Eye To Eye” is an album anchored in the past, reshaped for the future, unknown and uncertain more than ever. ‘Eye To Eye’ will be released on May 28, 2021 via V2 Records.
