Press release from the Humboldt County Joint Information Center:
Tenth County resident dies with COVID-19, and 26 new cases of COVID-19 were reported today. This brings the total number of districts tested positive for the virus to 1,163.
The deceased was in his 80s and had a positive test at the time of their death.
The eruption at the Granada Rehabilitation and Health Center has expanded rapidly since routine testing first detected a positive case. A total of 54 residents and 16 staff have been tested positive for the virus, and that number is likely to continue to grow. Humboldt County Deputy Health Officer Dr. Josh Ennis said the current outbreak is unprecedented in the county. “An effective nursing facility outbreak is not only indicative of a widespread disease, it also has the potential to reverberate in the community,” he said.
Dr. Ennis added that our community is not protected from facility explosion and can spread the disease within our district, and that cases outside the facility are still the majority of district cases. “We are a community. At this stage of the epidemic, the actions taken by one of us can affect all of us. We must all do our part to keep our loved ones healthy. ”a
