Hollywood strikes and streaming services: you should know
In Hollywood, the production of many series and films is at a standstill. Indeed, various parties are demanding better working conditions and higher wages. It started a month and a half ago with the screenwriters and for a week now the actors have also been on strike.
Why are writers and actors on strike?
First of all, writers and actors demand more pay. Everything has to do with “residues”. If a series, a film on DVD, Blu-ray or on television turned out to be a big success, the writers and actors saw something in return. This is hardly the case for series and films on streaming services.
If a series isn’t successful enough, it’s now being unceremoniously pulled from the streaming service. After that, the makers get nothing at all for it.
Additionally, there is now a lot of criticism about the emerging role of artificial intelligence. It’s a scary new factor for writers and actors. Streaming services think they can use artificial intelligence to create scripts, so they have to pay scriptwriters less.
Nowadays, the likeness of the actors is also increasingly saved, so that they can then be integrated into a series or a film via artificial intelligence without remuneration.
Your favorite series and movies will come later
Strikes only happen in the United States. As a result, the production of many American series and films has been delayed. Think popular Netflix shows like Stranger Things and Emily in Paris, and HBO hits like The Last of Us and Euphoria. But series such as Yellowjackets, Severance and Andor are also on hiatus. So you will have to wait even longer for new seasons of your favorite series. Cinema films are also delayed.

This means that the series and films planned for this year will probably be released as usual for the most part.
