The third edition of this season’s college football playoff rankings was released Tuesday night, and the top six teams in the top 25 have remained unchanged since last week. Alabama is the number one team in the country, with Notre Dame, Clemson and Ohio filling the top four. Will the Buckeyes qualify for the Big Ten Championship Game or the CFP given in their short schedule?
Two more SEC teams, Texas A&M and Florida, are in the “last two out” stages. The Gators will play LSU this Saturday rather than the slope with the Crimson Tide in next week’s SEC Championship game. The Aggies are in a difficult position in the hope that four teams will open a place on the field.
Iowa State was surprising in this week’s rankings, advancing to 7th place, two places ahead of Cincinnati and Georgia. Pierre Gates has not played in the last two weeks, while the Bulldogs have not played in the last week. At 8-2, ahead of five Power Five projects with one or fewer losses, the Hurricanes were the highest two-loss team, not to mention Cincinnati and Coastal Carolina.
The team has been overseeing the state of Iowa for the past few weeks. [We were impressed with] Won the 20th team in Texas, then [Iowa State] Taken to West Virginia last week. … They are number one in the Big 12. This is really the committee’s honor for what Iowa State has done, and not a fine for Cincinnati. “
Let’s look at the full CFP ranking 25. Continue reading from CBS Sports Bowl Expert Jerry Palm Analysis.

Bowls expert Jerry Palm analysis
The talk at the top of this week’s rankings is about what will happen to the state of Ohio more than what actually happened this week. Iowa State, which finished ninth last week behind Cincinnati and Georgia, is the highest rated team. Most non-Georgia fans are fine as the Bulldogs drop a spot. They are even more so.
Some of the Bear Gates do not play and suffer from not being able to add their application. UCF last beat Cincinnati on November 21, 36-33. Cincinnati’s game in Tulsa has been canceled this week, so Pierre Gates will host the Golden Hurricane at the AAC Championship game on December 19th.
That game will be of interest to the new No. 13 Coastal Carolina. Chandigliers moved up five places after a 22-17 victory over 18th BYU. If the Sands can finish the regular season like they won in Troy on Saturday and beat 19th Louisiana in the Sun Belt Championship game, they could be in a position to qualify for the New Year Six Games. Cincinnati will lose the look to Tulsa.
Big Ten now has a real problem. On Tuesday morning, Michigan had to cancel a game with Ohio State scheduled for Saturday, thus disqualifying the Buckeyes from playing in the Big Ten Championship game under current rules. This opens the door to entry into Indiana, but even before the CFP rankings were released, the Hoosiers announced that they would suspend football operations due to the eruption of COVID-19 on the show.
Four of the five Big Ten teams that exploded in COVID-19 have been forced to cancel two games. Only the state of Ohio was able to make a cancellation of it. If Indiana miss two weeks – if this Saturday’s game is not canceled yet – they will not be able to play for the Hoosiers Championship. With Maryland disqualified, the winner of this week’s Michigan State-Ben State game will be in the front row. It should clear any doubt that the Big Ten will do anything to ensure Ohio State plays the title game of the conference.
Notice there is another ranking. USC ranked 15th, five places from last week. CFP seems to be out of reach for the Trojans, but if they have extra shows like they did on Sunday night, a finish in the top 10 is possible.
