Code of conduct for species protection municipalities approved – Hortipoint

Recent is “ Code of conduct for the protection of species in municipalities ” approved. The code of conduct “Land use planning or organization” and the code of conduct “Sustainable management or maintenance” have been incorporated. This honored a long-standing wish of the professional community.

The code of conduct was designed and drafted by IPC Groene Ruimte in collaboration with Marieke Teunissen, based on advice from members of Stadswerk, representatives of municipalities and green sector entrepreneurs represented by VHG. The Dutch Enterprise Agency was also involved.

Concrete guidelines

New: the extensive catalog of measures with very concrete guidelines. It can be declared applicable by a decision of the council or the council. Additional conditions may also be formulated in this decree to give the code of conduct the specific local character desired.

The code of conduct for the protection of species for municipalities was approved on December 17 by Minister Schouten of the LNV. The code of conduct is intended for all Dutch municipalities and parties that work with greenery in municipal public spaces. It describes how careful measures are taken with protected plants and animals in public spaces. The code of conduct has also been prepared for the forthcoming environmental law.
