TUT.by has previously criticized the brutal intervention of agents and soldiers during protests last year. Much of the media is run by allies of President Aleksandr Lukashenko, so TUT.by was loved by opposition supporters.

In Belarus, thousands of protesters took to the streets after Lukashenko’s re-election last year. The president is said to have committed widespread fraud. Many European countries have imposed sanctions on Belarus due to the violent crackdown on protesters.

Journalist thrown in jail

In March, a news site reporter was sentenced to six months in prison for publishing the medical records of a protester killed during a protest. Last week, two journalists were jailed for three weeks.

Katerina Borisevich was jailed for 6 months for publishing the medical records of a protester, a “ hitting stick ” according to the opposition, while the hospital cleared the data and approved the protester’s family.
