Beaumont staff receive the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine

Royal Oak, Mich. – A team of Beaumont Healthcare Heroes received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine on Tuesday afternoon.

All health workers who have been vaccinated are in the 1A high priority group, i.e. patients with COVID-19 or infectious products have direct or indirect exposure.

“We are proud to finally be able to provide a vaccine for our teams. The virus has killed many lives and caused incredible strains on health workers and our health systems around the world. We are also working on projects, ”said Carolyn Wilson, CEO of Beaumont Health.

The first person to be vaccinated at Beaumont Health was Dr. Nick Gilpin, director of epidemiology and epidemiology.

“We have been waiting for a vaccine to arrive since the outbreak. I hope this vaccine and others in development will stop the spread of the virus and save lives. Nevertheless, I know that for most people it takes a while to get vaccinated. In the meantime, it is important that we all wear masks and adhere to social distance, ”said Dr. Gilpin.

Beaumont Health leaders recommended that Dr. Gilpin and about 15 other health workers on the 1A high-priority group be vaccinated first. On Tuesday, Beaumont also launched a robust clinic to vaccinate staff.

The health system received a total of 975 initial levels. All other Beaumont health workers who met the 1A high priority criteria were randomly selected to receive a call for vaccination. At the moment, the Beaumont vaccine is not mandatory, so health workers have the option to reject it.

All members of the first small group of vaccinated Beaumont Healthcare heroes will be invited to receive their second dose together at another event to be announced in a few weeks.
