Hillegom and the Beatles are linked by a performance in Treslong on June 5, 1964. There is already a Beatles monument in the village, but now Teun wants to establish a museum there.
He still remembers the Beatles visiting the Netherlands. It was 1964 and the Beatles were in our country for a few days for a concert in Blokker, a canal cruise in Amsterdam and a TV show at Treslong in Hillegom. Teun was twelve at the time and there was no question of being allowed to attend a show. “My dad really wasn’t allowed to do it.
The Beatles were completely different, their music was very innovative – Teun Korthals, Beatles fan
Still, he managed to get a glimpse of the group. They drove right in front of his house in Nieuw-Vennep in Hillegom. “We went to see some friends. They came with a white Chevrolet, it was a second job.
He’s been a fan ever since. “The teenage stars of that time were Willeke Alberti and Anneke Grönloh, but I didn’t like it. Then came the Beatles, who were completely different. Their appearance and music were very innovative.
Collection
Still, it was years before the Nieuw-Venneper started collecting Beatless stuff. “It started in the mid-1980s with the purchase of records. Its collection continued to grow.
He now has a full room where nothing can fit. “It’s crowded and small,” Teun said, looking around. The walls are covered with posters, there are rows of Beatles records and props in each corner. “It’s a shame there are so many people here. I’m looking for a solution, ”he says.
Wanted property
The Beatles fan is therefore looking for a building in Hillegom. “They played there at the time. So it would be good for the Hillegommers if they could see my collection. I’m going to sit there, then people can visit the museum for free. There is already a Beatles museum in Alkmaar, but according to Teun, there should be one in Hillegom as well. “Hillegom deserves this.”
Johan van Buren of the Beatles monument Treslong Hillegom joins in. It is an excellent idea. It would be a nice addition to the monument. Hope tourists will come back soon. They can then continue from Keukenhof to Hillegom, monument and museum. He supports the plan and calls on people with space or other ideas to report back to him.
