China sees Tesla as a spy
China has temporarily banned military personnel and some government officials from driving Tesla. Tesla has also been banned from military installations, other important locations and some residential areas.

According to Chinese officials, eight Tesla’s external cameras can always transmit information collected via sentry mode to the car company and to ‘enemies’ such as security in the United States via that line. Information sent to residents’ mobile phones may also leak through those lines. It was installed after a new safety test of the cars.

CEO Elon Musk denies the allegations: “We have every reason to keep information very confidential. If Tesla uses cars to spy on China or anywhere, we will be shut down,” Musk told a high-tech forum.
Competition
Tesla sold 147,445 new cars in China last year, accounting for 30 percent of global sales. Many of these cars are built at the Chinese Gigafactory in Shanghai, which opened last year. However, the American EV manufacturer is facing increasing competition from national brands such as Geely, POT and Ives. That way, a small anti-government ad would not be affected, which is a possible thought in Beijing.
