Hot air ballooning is not without its challenges, especially when it comes to a trip to the upper regions of the atmosphere. A man led the way, making flying much safer, among other things. In this episode of the Return Flight series: the intrepid Auguste Piccard.
He was the prototype of the scientist. No wonder the Belgian cartoonist HergĂ©, when he needed a teacher for a new story for his comic book hero Tintin, took Auguste Piccard as a starting point. Yet there are differences between the two. Piccard was tall and Zonnebloem short. Piccard was not hard of hearing, Zonnebloem a lot. But of all the similarities between the two – a lean body, pointy hair, glasses, a huge forehead – one is very important: Both scientists were quite practical, as they say. They have embarked on many adventures. Piccard’s love for science and his search for answers have taken him to great heights – and to the brink of death.
This is the start of the episode of the return flight “Columbus of the Stratosphere” which can be found in KIJK 4/2021. This edition will be in stores from March 18 to April 14.
