With the hashtag #GraciasLuna “thank you Luna”, people encourage a Spanish Red Cross volunteer through social media. The 20-year-old Spaniard has been the victim of a massive campaign of insults to comfort a Senegalese migrant who has just arrived in Sebta.
Her name is Luna Reyes. The young rescuer is a volunteer with the Spanish Red Cross. She was in a heartwarming photo of a migrant who had just arrived in the enclave. Shortly after the photo went viral, she had to make her social media private as she was harassed by supporters of Spain’s far-right Vox party and others opposed to the arrival of migrants in Sebta.
Reyes herself doesn’t particularly like what she’s done and describes comforting someone in need as “the most normal thing you can do.” She does not know the name of the man, but saw that he was tired and had given her water. “He was crying, I reached out and he gave me a hug,” she said. “He clung to me. That embrace was his lifeline.”
“They saw that my partner is black, they insult me and say terrible and racist things to me,” Luna Reyes told Spanish television channel RTVE. On social media, the hashtag #GraciasLuna “thank you Luna” was launched in response to support the advisor.
