In the animal welfare center in Limburg, dozens of dogs, cats, rabbits and birds are eager to find new owners. Each week, Saskia Thijssen puts an animal in the spotlight. This week it’s Blinkie.
What kind of bird is Blinkie and what is he doing in the shelter?
“Blinkie is a lovebird, also known as a lovebird. Latin name agapornis means love bird and it means that they need at least one of their kind to be truly happy. Blinkie came to the shelter with a number of peers because their owner could no longer care for them.
What care and housing does a lovebird need?
Lovebirds can be kept indoors as well as in an outdoor aviary. Most importantly, their enclosure is large enough to float. They are active birds who love to play. So be sure to furnish your home with stimulating toys such as ladders, scrambling ropes, and perches at different distances from each other. In addition to special food for birds, they need vegetables or fruit on a daily basis. Apple, banana, a piece of pineapple and corn are all good.
Do I have to consider anything if I want to keep lovebirds?
