Over 100 million cars around the world support Android Auto. Phone apps suitable for Android Auto can be used, such as Google Maps or Waze for navigation, or Whatsapp for communication or Spotify for music.
The operation can be done in different ways. Via large buttons on the screen, buttons in the car or via the Google voice assistant. Say “Ok Google” to talk to the Google Assistant or use the onscreen microphone. Say where the trip is going and the navigation adjusts. Or request a podcast, music through Spotify, TuneIn, YouTube music, or the latest news.
While driving without distraction is the safest, it is still a great benefit that the Google Assistant can read apps and the driver can respond with speech which is converted to text. Completely hands-free and with a screen that ensures a reasonable view of the road.
Android 10 or later users can immediately start using Android Auto. All you have to do is connect the phone to get started. Most cars do this via USB. More and more cars support the wireless version of Android Auto, so the phone can stay in your pocket. Android 9 or earlier users need to get the Auto app from the Play Store first.
