It had been fifteen years since Brandy, then a kitten, had run away.
Doubt
Charles, who doesn’t want to make his last name public, didn’t know why he missed a call from the shelter that came out of nowhere. Until he recalls and learns that his cat has been found, also healthy.
He didn’t believe much in it at first, but went to the shelter. He was convinced that he would find out that a mistake had been made somewhere. But when they came face to face with Brandy, the doubts instantly disappeared. Even though Brandy had run away as a kitten and now an elderly cat, the two immediately bonded, according to the shelter.
Tears
The reunion was moving. “I burst into tears thinking about all the years I had lost her,” says Charles.
The question remains where Brandy has been all these years. In 2005, Charles drove around the neighborhood for days, put up posters of missing cats, and called all shelters in the area, to no avail. The cat was likely found and taken in by someone who never had the idea of having the animal checked for a flea. It wasn’t until Brandy ran away and was found in the past few weeks that she ended up in a shelter where she was checked for a flea.
Incidentally, Brandy is still not living with Charles. He has adopted two new cats. And her cramped apartment is too small for three cats. Brandy now lives with Charles’s sister, where she will receive many visits from her former owner.
