A 27-year-old woman in Suriname was the victim of a street robber in broad daylight last Wednesday. This after having car trouble near Red Apple on the Indira Gandhiweg.
She then decided to walk with her boyfriend to the corner of van Kallenweg, where they would take a taxi to continue on their way. When she arrived at the aforementioned corner, she was approached by a man who asked her for money.
As she told this man he had no money, he pulled out a knife and waved it in her direction. She dropped her bag out of fear, after which the suspect left with the bag and its contents in the direction of Van Kallenweg. He was chased by his boyfriend who lost sight of the suspect at some point.
Police from Latour’s office attended the scene after the street robbery was reported. Law enforcement immediately opened an investigation and the 33-year-old SM suspect on Wagenmakerweg was positively recognized by the reporter. He was arrested by the police and the bag containing clothes and other personal effects was found on him, reports Surinamese police.
The cell phone and the car key were not found. The suspect was then transferred to the police station for arraignment. After consultation with the Crown, WS was secured by the police pending the investigation.
