Latvia will enter a four-week lockout on Monday, a government spokesman told CNN, following a sharp rise in new corona virus cases in recent weeks.
A total of 357 new cases were reported in Latvia on Friday, bringing its total number of infections to 7,476, according to a spokesman. The country has recorded 95 deaths since the outbreak.
The majority of cases in the country were registered last month. As of October 1, only 1,945 cases had been reported in Latvia.
Starting Monday, social interaction is encouraged. Only indoor meetings with a maximum of 10 people not exceeding two houses will be allowed. Restaurants will only be allowed to take out, and stores will limit the number of people who can be inside at one time.
Other restrictions include continuing distance education for high school students and vocational, vocational and higher education institutions, while the lower levels of the school remain open. Only stores that sell basic necessities such as groceries, medicines and pet food will be allowed to remain open on weekends and holidays.
All public events, including concerts and theatrical performances, are prohibited. Museums, libraries and bookstores will remain open under strict security measures.
