The participants who regularly added salt to their food displayed higher body mass indexes (BMI) and waist-to-hip ratios, pointing to the potentially detrimental impact of salt on weight regulation and inflammation in the body.

Dr. Lu Qi, the lead author of the study, suggests that salt may influence people’s eating behavior by encouraging larger portion sizes, which can further contribute to the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.
