Exhibition at the Sound & Vision media museum on a century of women’s football

This summer, the Media Museum of Sound & Vision presents a mini-exhibition on a century of women’s football. It was created in collaboration with The memory of the Netherlands and sports historian Jurryt van de Vooren.

In addition to moving images from the Sound & Vision archive, various attributes return, such as plastic football boots from the collection of Gien van Maanen, the first goalkeeper of the unofficial Dutch women’s team of 1956. In recent years, the popularity of women’s football in our country has exploded with the victory of the European Championship in their own country in 2017. This has not always been the case, as the museum presentation shows, among other things, how the sport has faced opposition and lack of recognition for years.

Photo exhibition in The Hague

In addition to the temporary presentation in Hilversum, a photo exhibition on Dutch women in top sport can be visited from July 23 at Sound & Vision The Hague. The exhibition who rules the world shows a selection of the best Dutch sports photos of yesterday and today. Not only football, but also all kinds of other sports like athletics, cycling, swimming, rowing and hockey.

The exhibition, which was created in collaboration with the ANP and the Municipal Archives of The Hague, shows sportswomen in action: how they fight and shine, win or fail. It shows the power of photography to illuminate unique moments from particular angles. In the exhibition there is a special tribute to the sports heroines of The Hague.

The exhibitions in Hilversum and The Hague run until Sunday 3 September.
