Nothing Phone (2): robustness tested on video
The Nothing Phone (2) has been announced and has now been tested on all aspects of ruggedness. In the video below JerryRigAll takes you through all sorts of tests and it starts with the screen’s scratch resistance. For this he uses the Moh scale and stripes appear quickly, especially at level 3. What does this mean? By default, there is a plastic screen protector glued to the screen, which you can of course remove yourself. Subsequently, it can be seen that light scratches occur at level 6 and deeper gouges at level 7, which are seen with almost all smartphones.
He carves the all-aluminum case with a Stanley knife, which naturally creates deep scratches. The coating of the buttons and the SIM tray also contains a layer of metal, which can be scratched off. He then proceeds to scrape the camera lenses and the back glass with a cutter. There is no damage due to the protective layer of Gorilla Glass.
Next, it’s time to test the lighter, where a small flame is held on the screen for about 30 seconds to see if there’s any damage. At the end of this test, there is a slight discoloration which does not disappear, but the screen continues to function well.
The in-screen fingerprint scanner works well, although that part of the screen is heavily scratched. Finally, Jerry watches to see if the Nothing Phone (2) breaks when force is applied to it. It does this first from behind, where the device is quiet. Then the device is flipped over and even then not much happens. The glass back panel pops out a bit, but when no more force is applied, it falls back into the case.
All in all, we can say that the Nothing Phone (2) is one of the most powerful devices the YouTuber has tested – and that’s good to hear.
