Granit Xhaka will play in the Bundesliga again this season. Seven years after Arsenal took over from Borussia Mönchengladbach, the Swiss midfielder returns to the German league as a player for Bayer Leverkusen.
When Leverkusen posted clips of the Apollo 13 movie on Twitter, fans knew enough. Xhaka is known for his long shot and rocket-like free kick and is now cleared to show it while serving a new employer. He signs a five-year contract with the club where Mitchel Bakker, Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Jeremie Frimpong (still) play. Bakker and Frimpong in particular seem to be on their way to the exit in Leverkusen.

Thus, for Xhaka, a period of seven years in London is coming to an end. The midfielder was appreciated for his solid play and fine goals, but it wasn’t all hosanna in the English capital. Xhaka was repeatedly shown an unnecessary red card and lost his captain’s armband after fan issues.
Xhaka was whistled after a draw against Crystal Palace in 2019 and the Swiss responded with the necessary gestures. Then manager Unai Emery decided to change captains, but Xhaka continued to get his playing time. In the end, he won four trophies with Arsenal.
With the departure of Xhaka, who is said to be worth around €25m, a spot will become available in midfield. It’s an open secret that The gunners are working on a recording contract for West Ham United’s Declan Rice.
