Press release from the Humboldt County Joint Information Center:
Four new cases of COVID-19 have been reported since Friday, bringing the total number of counties tested positive for the virus to 533.
The Humboldt County Data Dashboard has been updated to include more local information, including rates for hospitalizations by minors, mortality rates for minors, and case location by zip code. Since race and ethnic information are self-reported and not available for all events, this database now represents a percentage of the total number of cases for which data is available, rather than the percentage of all cases.
Adult hospitalization and mortality rates indicate the percentage of Humboldt County residents under a certain age who have been hospitalized or died following a positive test for COVID-19. The case number of the zip code will range from 0 to 5 per case number until it exceeds 5 total cases, at which time the total confirmed number will be displayed. Humboldt County Health Officer Dr. Theresa Frankovich warned against using ZIP code information to assess a person’s exposure to COVID-19. “The case location is assigned to a person’s permanent residence, so it does not indicate where a person is infected with the virus,” he said. This information is provided to help residents better understand how widespread the virus is in the community, but it should not be used to determine whether a particular city or city is safe. “The best way to protect ourselves, our families and our economy is to adhere to preventive measures to control the spread of COVID-19 wherever we go,” Dr. Frankovich said.
