Another businessman who immigrated to the United States: ‘Biden will help us’ | Abroad

Thousands of asylum seekers in Honduras are forming groups to walk together to the United States. They hope to find a better life there when Democrat Joe Biden is president.

The first group of about three hundred left the country’s second city, San Pedro Sula, on Thursday. The asylum seekers walk to Corinth, about 100 miles[100 km]from the Guatemalan border. “We are fleeing poverty. I have not been able to find work since the outbreak in March, ”said a 36-year-old cook who left her husband and three children behind.

U.S. officials have called for asylum seekers to stay at home. “You expose yourself to the dangers of this dangerous journey,” the executive chairman of the U.S. Border Protection Organization said recently. “This puts the lives and health of people in the United States and countries in the region at risk because the Govt-19 could spread.”

Immigrant

In the United States, there was great excitement at the end of 2018 about approaching ‘merchants’ with immigrants from Latin America. They went to the southern border of the United States. The administration of President Donald Trump has taken steps to expel such asylum seekers. For example, Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador have been designated as safe countries. Mexico also promised to use the military to keep immigrants out of the border.

Many people living in Honduras do not encourage this. The group of about 3000 people is expected to leave for the United States today. They hope that Biden will change the immigration policy of his predecessors. A mother who traveled with her 10-year-old son expressed the hope that “God will get Biden to help us.”
