Blingen expressed deep concern about cyber attacks in Uyghur, Hong Kong, Taiwan, China and the economic persecution of US allies. His Chinese spokesman, Yang Jiechi, accused Blingen of hypocrisy because the United States could not be there to lecture China on human rights and democracy because of the Black Lives Matter movement and the Capitol storm.
Under Donald Trump, relations between the rival powers have deteriorated in all areas, from mutual trade to security cooperation. Beijing hoped that a return to Barack Obama’s “constructive dialogue” would happen with Fiden. As the People’s Republic celebrates its centenary in 2049, it will give China time to quietly pursue its geopolitical ambition to become world leader. But a fresh start is not possible. Democrat Biden wants Beijing as much as Republican Trump.
Not much
There is a difference with Trump, which does not exactly apply to the Chinese. Under Biden, the United States has returned to diplomacy four years later. Biden does not want to go it alone, but wants to form a common front with allies against the increasingly powerful China. Blingen’s first foreign trip was to Asia, where he strengthened ties with Australia, India and Japan to restore confidence in the US leadership.
Wants to show that the US is back as a world leader and that the answer to China can only be forged with integrated diplomatic force.
European allies may also be waiting for Biden or Blingen to knock on their door to form an alliance in response to China’s growing commitment. The United States wants to show that the United States is once again a world leader and that only with combined diplomatic force can free and democratic nations respond to the geopolitical challenge posed by China.
Also the opposite balance
The fact that there is a perception of trying to get a place in Europe with the China-New Silk Road in Brussels is encouraging among others. Last week, for example, the European Union announced sanctions against China for violating Uyghur human rights. These are the first European sanctions against China since 1989.

Under protectionist Trump, it was easy for the EU to stay out of the hopping game between the two powers. It is very difficult for the EU to say ‘no’ to a very moderate pittance that strives for friendly relations with allies. If the European Commission wants to fulfill its ambition to become a ‘geopolitical player’, it cannot deny Biden’s call to collectively oppose the emergence of a China-led world order.
