Yesterday, 21 firefighters were injured in a blaze in a dilapidated apartment building in New York’s Harlem neighborhood, four of them seriously.
Two residents were also injured, reports the NY Daily News. They were taken to two different hospitals.
The fire started in an empty apartment on the first floor of the building, which belongs to the city. The building was going to be renovated soon. Five families have always stayed in the building.
The fire quickly found its way to the other floors of the building. Residents were able to leave the building and were taken on a bus due to freezing temperatures in New York City.
About 200 firefighters were deployed to fight the blaze. After a few hours, the fire was under control. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
